How long ago was Fred approached?  I thought the Raiders came up with the idea for the Award as a way to promote their brand among college players.

"Bowling Ball", not even close. The printed program for the famous (Csonka and other keynoters have called the banquet "the best in college sports")  Biletnikoff Award Banquet sets out the four founders--all North Floridians. Professor Walter Manley II, Tom Cox, Jr., Bob Teel, and Rocky Bevis. I understand they are leaders in their respective fields in Florida, as well. The bios of trustees are available under The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation heading on the website.

The Raiders had absolutely nothing, zilch, nada, to do with the award's formation or sustenance.

Fred was fairly forgotten by the public by 1994, despite his outstanding football career. 1994 was the year the Biletnikoff Award was founded.

I suggest you read about the award on this web site if you wish to track the founding. Needless to say, hats off to the Fabulous Four above who founded the award in 1994. The Biletnikoff Award is apparently the second most well-known individual award in college football after the Heisman Trophy.

I notice you ask a lot of questions, Bowling Ball. What opinions or knowledge, aside from questions, can you bring to this forum?ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedCoolKissKiss

I think the Foundation has done a phenomenal job. Your award is by far the sexiest and best-known after the Heisman in college football. I love the fact that you give almost a million dollars annually to kids for college and trade school. Congratulations.KissKiss

Great things about the Biletnikoff Award:

1. Most generous college award organization in $$ annually to its charitable mission. Looks like the BA gives double every year what the 12 other major awards combined give to their charities.

2. Looks like you are all volunteers, with no paid staff of executive director, etc.

3. You have the most beautiful trophy in college sports.

4. I watched the Biletnikoff Award banquet on ESPN in February of this year. I agree with Larry Csonka that it is the best banquet in college sports. What a great banquet with great speakers--everyone who spoke at the rostrum was super, super polished.

5. Your web site is fantastic. Love surfing it.

6. Looks like you have a great discussion Forum and Fan Vote!

Have a great year. Hot Sports Chick KissKiss

I agree with all these points made by Hot Sports Chick.

I also love the Biletnikoff Award national selection committee--the absolute cream of football writers and analysts! Great job recruiting these people! I am sure they are honored to serve such a fantastic award--and I agree with all my friends that the Biletnikoff is second in prominence only to the Heisman in individual awards in college football. Keep up the magnificent job!
