Charles Newell, M.D. is a native of Panama City Florida and a 1985 graduate of The Florida State University. Dr. Newell attended Medical School at the University of Tennessee and completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Florida. He completed his fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Dr. Newell returned to Tallahassee in 1999 and is a partner with Southern Vitreoretinal Associates, LLC. Dr. Newell currently serves as the Chairman of Ophthalmology at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He also serves as a Trustee at Holy Comforter Episcopal School. Dr. Newell’s wife Amy currently serves on the board of both Leon High School’s Foundation, and Pope John Paul II Catholic High School. Dr. Newell and Amy are both active in fundraising for several local charities. They have four children and they all enjoy traveling together and participating in numerous athletic activities.

The Biletnikoff Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA).
